About
Q. What is Topanga?
A. Topanga is the 12 mile canyon road that runs between the 101 Fwy in Woodland Hills and Pacific Coast Highway at Santa Monica/ Malibu and the Topanga community that spiders out in a network of small roads leading in the surrounding mountains.
Topanga Canyon’s beautiful mountain setting is a popular destination for many city dwellers who come to enjoy its natural beauty, hiking trails, destination restaurants, shops and cooler summer evenings. It’s mix of affluence, nature lovers and bohemian culture provides a unique rural retreat and escape from the valley heat, traffic and city noise of Los Angeles.
Q: Why Topanga Nights?
A: Topanga Nights is an annual fund raiser conceived by resident Dianne Porchia in 2007, in response to a call for action to help save the Topanga Community House from being taken over by the county due to financial difficulties.
“Topanga Nights brings families, friends and neighbors together for summer fun, socializing, dancing and celebration.”
Get together with friends, families and neighbors. Teens, children, seniors and visitors to Topanga come together to socialize listen and dance to live local Topanga bands, watch belly dancers, drummers and other local talent.
“Enjoy a great date night out.”
Bring your own picnic dinner, or order take-out box dinners from The Canyon Bistro in town center or select healthy choices from the Green Truck on premises, as well as tastey cold treats from an old fashion ice cream truck.
Then after sunset snuggle up and watch a classic PG movie on a full size outdoor screen under the canopy of shooting stars and the sound of howling coyotes in the mountains.
Don’t forget to bring your picnic blankets, fleece throw and flashlights for walking back to your car.
Q. What is the Topanga Community Club (TCC)?
A: The Topanga Community Club is a volunteer non-profit organization that maintains and repairs the Topanga Community House. In existence for 51 years, the Club is host to numerous local events and provides philanthropic, educational, social activities, and services for the Topanga community including the widely attended Topanga Days. In order for it to continue playing such a pivotal role in the community, the Club needs to look at alternative ways of fund-raising and Topanga Nights will enable this to happen as well as provide another means for our community to get together.
